Supply Chain Excellence for SAP Through SCOR

The Issue

There are numerous horror stories about how ERP implementations have taken businesses to the brink by causing major issues in their supply chains. Our consultants have lived through multiple implementations worldwide, and know where the pitfalls lie, and more importantly how to avoid them.

21st Century supply chain networks are complex, multifaceted, and difficult to manage, facing more demanding customers, increasing numbers of SKUs, and compliance reporting issues in a world where the requirement is to make informed, profitable decisions at an ever faster rate.

Not only are supply chains the root cause of a number of significant business challenges, they are also the area where real business differential and competitive advantage can be gained. Value chains, not just Supply Chains.

The Solution

We have extensive troubleshooting experience and the required skills to resolve customer service delivery problems and to control working capital levels.

Supply Chain Council

SEVEN is very proud to be a member of the , a 'not for profit' organisation established by leading academic and industry thought leaders to design a complete set of standards in business processes, best practices and performance metrics. The Supply Chain Council focuses on helping organisations aim for Supply Chain Excellence, and our consultants are all training to become the UK’s first Certified Practitioners of the SCOR (Supply Chain Operations Reference) model.

The Supply Chain Council is recognised as the independent Global Supply Chain point of reference and the SCOR model is recognised as the industry standard way of implementing continuous improvement Supply Chain strategies and operational excellence within an organisation.

It is our strategy to become recognised as a Centre of Excellence for delivering benefits using SCOR and Supply Chain / SAP continuous improvement initiatives.

Move up the Supply Chain Maturity Scale

SEVEN has spent significant time and effort understanding and learning how to implement the approved industry standard in supply chain business process modelling - the SCOR (Supply Chain Operations Reference) model.

We are now aiming to become the first consultancy to offer Certified Practitioners of SCOR. The SCOR model perfectly compliments our experiences and knowledge of business processes, best practices and the key performance metrics that can drive business improvement.

The SCOR methodology defines the Supply Chain into the following components:

It also includes an ENABLE component that contains the process of data management, performance assessment, business rule definition, inventory management, data management and regulatory and compliance requirements among others.

The Level 1 SCOR model looks like this;

Level 1 SCOR Model

SEVEN'S experience indicates that it is in the integration between process areas that problems can occur, and therefore, in the development of any functional based system it is important to frame the solution in context to the total supply chain solution.

The SCOR business model allows the business to see what well integrated best practice processes look like, thereby ensuring that the blueprinting and process re-engineering stages are significantly expedited and the quality of the total solution greatly improved.

The standards that SCOR provides in terms of Processes definitions, Best Practices and Metrics creates a common language, breaking down communication issues that can exist between business units, process areas and especially between the business and IT. This language breakdown can often result in poorly defined requirements and a simple lack of understanding between the communicating parties, often resulting in less than perfect results. SCOR overcomes this by ensuring that the same 'language' is used, and thus ensuring that focus is where it should be - on delivering improvements.
